Assessment of science on sauna visits by children

According to doctors, nothing speaks against taking children to a sauna visit together. Of course, the age of the children must be taken into account. Professor Dr. Eberhard Conradi, doctor and chairman of the German Sauna Association advises doubting parents to take their children to the sauna with a clear conscience. According to Conradi, children as early as one to two years old can use the sauna, but it should be noted that the children are only allowed to take part in a maximum of two sauna sessions and that the length of each individual sauna session must not exceed six minutes. Furthermore, there are only a few points to consider so that the sauna experience can also be fun for the children.

Checklist for visiting the sauna with children

The opinion of the pediatrician should be obtained before the children go to the sauna for the first time. In general, the child should only be taken along if it is absolutely healthy. The temperature in the individual sauna cabins is different. It should be ensured that the age of the child is taken into account and that a child who has completed a total of two sauna sessions first goes to a cabin with a lower temperature so that it can slowly get used to. The upper benches, where the air can get particularly hot, should be avoided. If the child feels uncomfortable, leave the sauna room immediately.

Spain is very popular with holidaymakers – apparently too high for some politicians. Several regional governments are thinking out loud about a tourist limit during the summer months. Most recently, the Deputy Prime Minister of Mallorca, Biel Barceló, spoke in this direction.

Barceló said that in the future, a tourist limit for the islands of Mallorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Menorca could not be ruled out for the summer months. The new left government in Palma would follow the example of the rulers in the Canaries.

Carlos Sánchez, the city councilor responsible for economics in the new left-wing city administration of Madrid, also announced that it was considering introducing a tourist tax. A levy as the government of the Balearic Islands wants to decide. Mayor Manuela Carmena, however, pushed her economic councilor too far. She said Madrid would not introduce such a fee for the time being.

Central government is critical of the project

Central government politicians are critical of these plans. Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said of the various initiatives that we should participate in the field of tourism "extreme caution" act.

The share of tourism in the gross domestic product of Spain is a good eleven percent. The sector employs two million people. And precisely the unemployment rate of 23 percent – one of the highest rates in the European Union – is causing Rajoy’s People’s Party (PP) great concern ahead of the parliamentary elections at the end of the year.

Barcelona: tourist limit with hotel construction freeze

It’s not just about plans and emptiness "Threats". The example of Barcelona shows that. The new left-wing mayor Ada Colau recently banned hotels and other accommodations from being re-registered for a year.

In the Barceloneta district in particular, residents protested against the influx of party tourists last year. The residents also complained about price increases that displace poorer residents.

Mallorca is reaching its limits

The number of visitors to Mallorca also increases in the summer months. According to official figures, 80 percent of the 14 million tourists who visit the Balearic Islands each year come to the Mediterranean islands of Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera in summer.

Everyone is aware that the Balearic Islands have a high absorption capacity during the main season "totally exhausted" said Barceló. But there is a lot of leeway to let tourism grow outside of the summer months.

Canaries limit tourist numbers

In the Canary Islands, Prime Minister Fernando Clavijo from the nationalist party association Coalición Canaria has already announced a limit on the number of tourists. There, 13 million tourists annually provide 30 percent of the regional GDP.

"It’s no use if 20 million come, but all have an ‘all-inclusive package’" Clavijo said in an interview with the newspaper "El País". You want a tourist limit and above all visitors who "respect the environment" and "leave money here too".

Mallorca is the absolute front runner among the Balearic Islands. The little sister Menorca, the hip Ibiza and the less crowded Formentera are also worth a trip.
